24 hours before your flight, most travelers check their passport and boarding pass. But some forget to check something essential: is their phone ready for abroad?
Ireland — with its green landscapes, warm pubs and wild ocean shores — requires you to stay connected. To capture the moments, find your way, stay in touch with home. Here's a digital checklist to make sure you're ready.
1. Check your device's eSIM compatibility
Not every phone supports eSIM. If you have an iPhone XS or newer, or a recent Android device, you're probably good. Check your device settings or contact your phone provider if you're unsure.
2. Download the nRed app
Before your flight, download the app and make sure it works. That way you can install your eSIM as soon as you can, even at the terminal before takeoff.
3. Save your QR code in both a digital copy and a printout
When you get your QR code for your eSIM, save it in two places: as a photo on your phone (cloud or Google Photos) and as a small printout. If something happens, you'll have a backup.
4. Make sure your Israeli line stays active
That's the big advantage of eSIM: your Israeli line stays active at the same time. Check with your provider that international roaming is enabled, or at least monitored, so you can receive important messages.
5. Check your roaming status
If you're choosing roaming in any way, check the rates with your provider. A local eSIM in Ireland is usually cheaper than Israeli roaming.
6. Document your account information
Save in encrypted text (or a protected folder) your Israeli phone number, iCloud/Gmail access code, and any other important information. If something happens, you can access it.
7. Download offline maps
Ireland is beautiful, but not everywhere has stable internet coverage. Download maps of Dublin, Cork, or any area you'll visit, through Google Maps or Maps.me.
8. Check your important passwords
Write down in a notebook (or encrypted text) the passwords to important accounts: bank, email, eSIM. You don't want to arrive in Ireland and discover you can't log into anything.
9. Check your passport validity
This isn't related to connectivity, but make sure your passport is valid for at least six months. Britain and EU partners require this.
10. Install your eSIM before takeoff
