Canada is every Israeli traveler's dream: wild nature, vibrant cities, and road trips that stretch across thousands of kilometers. But when you're driving from Toronto to Banff, or wandering through Victoria's neighborhoods, the first question that comes up is: how do I stay connected?
An Israeli traveler can manage without a lot of things, but without data access? That's a completely different story.
Three options – and three very different prices
First option: International roaming from your Israeli line
It's the most convenient solution and at the same time the most expensive. You don't change anything, your line keeps working exactly like in Israel – except your bill skyrockets. Before you decide on this, check the report from your provider. Because yes, it's possible. But also yes, it can be very expensive.
Second option: A local Canadian SIM card
When you land in Toronto or Vancouver, you can buy a local SIM card at the train station, at a telecom store, or even at a gas station convenience store. The idea is simple: new card, new number, local rates. The obvious advantage is the price – local rates are much cheaper. The downside? You change your number, and friends in Israel will need to know the new one. Plus, you have to remove your Israeli card from your phone, which means you won't receive messages or calls to your Israeli number.
Third option: eSIM
This is the solution that changes the game. eSIM is a digital SIM that installation requires only scanning a QR code – no physical cards, no going into stores, no waiting in line. You install the eSIM before you even leave Israel, or during your wait at the airport.

When do you choose each option?
Choose roaming if: You're traveling for just a week, mostly in one city, and staying in touch with home is essential.
Choose a local SIM card if: You're traveling for long weeks, you don't need to talk to Israel all the time, and you're willing to temporarily change your number.
Choose eSIM if: You want the best of both worlds – staying in touch with home and cheap browsing in Canada. This is the situation where you don't have to choose between one thing and another.
