צ׳ק-ליסט דיגיטלי לפני טיסה לקמבודיה: 6 צעדים שלא תשכחו בבית

A trip to Cambodia is every traveler's dream who loves mystery, ancient culture, and wild nature. But before you reach out to Angkor Temple or dive into the bustling markets of Phnom Penh, there's something important to sort out at home: digital preparation.

The modern Israeli traveler knows that browsing abroad isn't just essential — it's the first step of every great day. But in Cambodia, where infrastructure differs from Israel's, you need to plan a bit more ahead. Here's a checklist you won't want to forget.

1. Check your SIM — and decide on an alternative

First things first: check the terms of your Israeli SIM. If you have an active roaming package, it can be expensive in Cambodia. Smart tip: keep your Israeli SIM in your device, but turn off data roaming to avoid unexpected charges.

For browsing abroad, eSIM is the most practical solution. Unlike a physical SIM card that needs to be replaced (and requires finding a store in a foreign city), eSIM is installed inside your device. With a simple QR code scan, within minutes, you're connected to a local network in Cambodia. No need to swap anything, and no physical card you can drop or forget.

2. Download essential apps before takeoff

Internet in Cambodia is good, but not always fast or stable. Download in advance:

  • Offline maps: Google Maps or Maps.me — so you can navigate even without internet
  • Translation: Google Translate (download the Khmer language)
  • Transportation apps: Grab (a local Uber-like service)
  • Banking apps: Make sure your bank supports international transfers

3. Update your device's records

Make sure your phone is up to date with the latest version of iOS or Android. This is important not only for security, but also so the eSIM works smoothly. Also check the expiration date of your device's digital certificates.

4. Back up important data

Before traveling, do a full backup of your photos, contacts, and everything that matters to you. Use Cloud (Google Drive, iCloud) so you can access everything from anywhere, even if something happens to your device.

5. Turn on airplane mode at the right time

This might seem obvious, but many forget. When you board the plane, turn off all connections. After landing in Cambodia, before you get off the plane, scan the QR code of your eSIM and activate your new browsing.

6. Check your Israeli SIM's roaming settings

As we said, turn off data roaming on your Israeli SIM. Also check that you're not accidentally connected to other networks. When updating your phone settings, make sure the new eSIM is preferred for SMS messages and calls.

And that's it — you're ready!

When you arrive in Cambodia, you can start your adventure right away. You won't need to search for a SIM shop in a foreign city, you won't wait in line, and you won't have to decide which package to buy. Everything is already waiting for you on your phone.

Have a great trip!
